What I Realized About Psychology in University
When I was in college, I decided that my major would be psychology, I would go on to healthcare college and grow to be the next Frasier Crane. Well, that never occurred. I do the job as a probation officer now, which I am fairly satisfied with, but I have to say that there is a lot about psychology that has assisted me in my career and in life in general.

One of the the points I enjoy the most about psychology is that one truly learns what motivates people to do the things they do. It is uncomplicated to see how surroundings can affect a particular person’s world point of view or how early youth encounters can affect a individual’s later life.
Case in point – I noticed a probationer last year who was combative, cocky and uncooperative. My first inclination was to be very stern with him and inform him that I was not going to put up with any nonsense or disrespect. To be totally sincere, I did just that, but I also requested him to inform me about his child years and what it was like for him growing up.
I realized that he had been abused throughout his life and that his mother told him she did not love him. He also told me that his father was a drug addict and that his mother’s partner use to beat her up and then go after him. I soon recognized that a lot of what I had realized about psychology, specifically Freudian psychology and the results that youth encounters have on a human being in later life, truly assisted me comprehend him.
I discussed with him few of the details I had realized about psychology when it came to dealing with such difficulties and how to resolve them. I also encouraged him to go and see an real psychologist who could offer him with a formal diagnosis and enable him to begin weeding by means of few of the pressure and troubles he encountered on a day-to-day basis.
Inside a few months, this man or woman had finished the conditions of his probation and was doing fairly well. He was doing work a full-time career, going to college, and did not sense the urge to use drugs or steal any longer, which were among the costs that had been brought towards him when we 1st met. I give him nearly all of the credit for taking the initiative to tackle the difficulties he had, but I do remind myself that it was what I had realized about psychology that Directed him to do so.
This individual is now a model probationer and well on his way to a better life. He told me the other day that he wished to study more about psychology so that he could aid aidother people and is actually thinking about majoring in the topic himself. I am so amazed that what I had realized was able to help him so much, and that it will perhaps even help more folks in the future by way of him.
