In an international removal, one of the tasks that need to be undertaken is to move heavy and big items such as cupboards, display cabinets, container chests, and the like. Normally, two or more men may be required to haul the item from one location to another. Unfortunately, moving or carrying this way could damage the object. For example, a heavy bookcase may need to be hauled by two or more people. While carrying the item from your room to the front door, the removals staff may inadvertently bump the furniture on walls, place the item down every now and then to rest, or hit a few obstructions. These minor mishaps can damage the item as it is carried on its way to the truck.

Thankfully, there are certain types of equipment that could be used in carrying heavy items during an international removal. Here are just a few of them.

1. Moving pads – Typically used on objects that are too heavy to carry, these are concave pads that are put at the bottom of the piece’s feet or corners. One side is typically padded (the side where the furniture’s feet rest) while the other is smooth (the side in contact with the floor). With the pads in their proper position, you can just slide the item across the floor to another area.

2. Dolly – this is usually a flat-bed cart with four multi-directional wheels at the bottom. Lift the object, place it on the dolly then roll it to another place. Another benefit of using a dolly is that you can put and move several smaller items such as boxes, packs and bags at once rather than carrying them individually.

3. Straps – these are pieces of webbing that wrap around the item to secure it. The straps are then worn like a backpack to haul and move the piece. Straps are typically used to move small, light objects.
